& R6 {* x) g* L! W+ FThe driver of a minivan involved in a fatal collision that claimed the life of a pedestrian in Erin Mills last week has been charged in connection with the crash.
" y( f- ^% e3 m$ B7 iAgnes Turley, 65, of Milton, has been formally charged with making an unsafe turn in the July 19 incident that killed Alison Weeks, 42, of Mississauga.
0 Y: _ p$ x' Z' r# d- `- W H3 oThe Highway Traffic Act charge carries a maximum fine of $500 upon conviction.
: g- m" B+ A' m/ r, Z( l7 jPeel Regional Police charged the woman after hearing from several eye witnesses following the crash at the intersection of Erin Mills Pkwy. and Eglinton Ave.
$ e) W- W+ e0 XGlenys Gunn, 64, of Mississauga, told The News she was driving westbound along Eglinton Ave. at around 11:30 a.m. when she saw the maroon-coloured minivan turn left from eastbound Eglinton to northbound Erin Mills Pkwy., straight into the path of a silver Honda Civic travelling west on Eglinton Ave.& I* L8 ~" {) Y% z. o* A8 {8 T/ ]
"The silver car had the green light, so it seems as though the (minivan) was at fault," she said. "The minivan basically went right into the driver's side and the (Civic) just shot up in the air and did almost a double flip and landed on its roof."
$ G. N4 {6 `& R9 P2 @The collision caused the Civic to go airborne and strike Weeks, a pedestrian who was crossing at the intersection.% J* `3 a; h$ g" A# ~
Weeks later died in hospital., G# s* c" `3 e4 G1 Q
Turley wasn't injured.
5 @6 `/ _+ v- ]* xMeanwhile, the 52-year-old Mississauga woman driving the Civic sustained minor injuries.
: X/ r1 T8 {) R: O' y+ BWeeks was married woman who was an avid runner, participating in events such as the Bread & Honey Race and the Sporting Life 10-kilometre run for children with cancer.
