Mississauga drivers can expect to be seeing a lot of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) as the last long weekend of the summer approaches.
1 G3 i5 J5 Q4 \5 QThis Labour Day weekend, OPP want to remind motorists that police will be targeting aggressive drivers, those who are not wearing their seatbelts, and people who drink and drive a motor vehicle.8 n# J3 s& T9 m& y; P
"We have the safest roads in North America and some of the toughest laws against impaired driving, but it all comes down to responsible choices," said Ontario Transportation Minister Kathleen Wynne. "Alcohol and driving is a deadly combination and I urge all Ontario drivers to make the smart choice and stay sober this weekend and every day."

Officials from the Ministry of Transportation will be helping the OPP inspect vehicles throughout the weekend, emphasizing the importance of mechanical safety and load security as people close cottages and their children move off to college and universities.: T6 B) G; W7 B( q
OPP Sgt. Dave Woodford wants to remind everyone that incidents don’t just occur on the roads but also on the waterways and the trails and everyone must focus first on safety. : B h9 @( @1 L8 c( }/ ~; \& k
Peel Regional Police will also have beefed up enforcement, including more RIDE spotchecks, on local roads this upcoming weekend. |
